China Selects 20 Cities for Intelligent Connected Vehicle “Vehicle-Road-Cloud Integration” Pilot Projects
Nationwide Push for Smart Transportation Infrastructure Gains Momentum
China / August 2024 / 7ITS News — In July, five Chinese ministries—Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Natural Resources, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and Ministry of Transport—jointly designated 20 cities and city clusters as pilot sites for the "Vehicle-Road-Cloud Integration" applications for Intelligent Connected Vehicles (ICVs).

The selected cities include Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chongqing, Nanjing, Suzhou, Ordos, Shenyang, Changchun, Wuxi, Hefei, Fuzhou, Jinan, Shiyan, Chengdu, Changsha, the Haikou-Sanya-Qionghai cluster, and the Hangzhou-Tongxiang-Deqing cluster. The pilot projects will run from 2024 to 2026.
Recently, several regions have launched intensive demonstration projects under the "Vehicle-Road-Cloud Integration" initiative. Beijing has announced nearly 10 billion yuan in new infrastructure projects, while Wuhan has secured approval for a major demonstration project worth 17 billion yuan.
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China has established 17 national-level ICV testing zones, 7 vehicle network pilot zones, 16 "Dual Intelligence" pilot cities, and opened over 32,000 kilometers of test roads. The country has issued more than 7,700 test licenses, with a total testing mileage exceeding 1.2 billion kilometers. Additionally, over 8,700 Roadside Units (RSUs) have been deployed across various regions, and many are advancing the construction of cloud control infrastructure platforms.
