Major city road's safety improvement work starts
Wolverhampton‘s Cannock Road will undergo safety improvements, including new pedestrian crossings and traffic flow enhancements. Work, involving temporary lights, aims for completion by 21 November, weather permitting.
Safety improvement work will get under way later on a major road in Wolverhampton.
The city council said it is taking place on Cannock Road, at the section between Deyncourt Road and The Scotlands island, with a plan for it to be completed by Friday 21 November, depending on the weather.
It is part of the city's Local Safety Scheme and will include three new pedestrian crossing points and bollards, to prevent pavement parking and improve pedestrian visibility.
Qaiser Azeem, the council's cabinet member for city transport, said: "We are committed to making Cannock Road safer for everyone including pedestrians".
Most of the work will take place between 09:30 GMT and 15:30, and temporary two way and multi-way traffic lights will be in place.
The council said work will also include central hatch road markings, with dedicated right turn lanes to improve traffic flow, as well as the relocation of the bus shelter near Mill Lane to a more central position, closer to the shopping area.
Azeem said the work got under way following a consultation on how it should proceed.
"Improving road safety is a key priority for us, and these measures are based on detailed analysis and community feedback," he added.
