Senegal holds public transport conference
Discussion on "Strategic rehabilitation of railways as an alternative solution to relieve pressure on roads" during the conference
APS reported on October 21 that on Monday, Senegalese President Faye said at the Public Transport Conference that he would conduct a rigorous assessment and comprehensive diagnosis of the ills of public transport industries such as roads, railways and aviation, and consider solving the common problems in the industry in a sustainable way to promote the rapid development and overall transformation of the industry.
The meeting was initiated by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport of Senegal for five days, and transportation experts, heads of institutions and representatives of consumer associations attended the meeting.
President Faye called for the definition of an inclusive and sustainable transportation system to support new forms of transportation such as electric transportation and digital transportation. During the conference, discussions were held on "strategic repair of railways as an alternative solution to roads to reduce pressure on roads." Faye expressed a firm ambition to reshape public transportation and modernize it thoroughly, emphasizing that its goal is to meet the growing needs of users, especially to strengthen the competitiveness of the Senegalese economy through the development of railways and the West African Highway Corridor.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport, the conference is expected to provide solutions to problems related to the management, financing and operation of public transportation.
